In a press brief on 18th May, the first vice president Riek Machar Teny Dhorgon the commander in chief of SPLM-IO and his wife Madam Angelina Teny reported to the public that they have conducted a COVID-19 test and have been found positive. The first vice president told the press that, he and his wife caught the virus while interacting with high-level COVID-19 tasks force.

A statement from his office said a number of his staff members, including security guards, also contracted the virus, although their identities were withheld from the report in anticipation of their release the following day. According to the report, the task force is still conducting more test and the first vice president ensured the public release of data soon.

He added that he and his wife will go into self-quarantine as well as the others who have tested positive for the next 14 days. A doctor may be visiting us until they tell us it is time to end the quarantine. All our colleagues will also be self-quarantining,” Dr Machar said.
